Experience Report: Three Years of Heating with Lucht LHZ Partial Storage Heaters in a Renovated Old Single-Family Home

Lucht LHZ is proud to present a detailed experience report from one of our OEM customers who have successfully used our partial storage heaters (also known as surface storage heaters) in their renovated old single-family home.

The M. family, consisting of two adults and two children, has lived in a semi-detached house in the Erzgebirge foothills near Chemnitz since spring 2021. The following report summarizes the results and experiences from three years of heating practice.

The Building: A Renovated Old House with Electric Radiators

The house, a semi-detached home built in 1927, underwent extensive renovation before the family moved in. In addition to energy-efficient renovations, which included comprehensive insulation of the facade, roof, and floors, modernizing the electrical system was a crucial step. To meet the demands of modern heating technology, the entire electrical system was renewed, and each room was equipped with its own secured connection for the partial storage heaters.

Individual Electric Radiators for Each Room

The single-family home, with around 150 mยฒ of living space, is now equipped with 10 partial storage heaters produced by Lucht LHZ, distributed across 9 different rooms. The family carefully selected the radiators based on a detailed calculation of heat requirements according to DIN 4701 standards. Thanks to Lucht LHZโ€™s wide product range, our OEM partner was able to offer the family the optimal heating solution for each room.

For example, the family chose a powerful standard radiator for the living room, while high IP24-rated radiators with towel rails were installed in the bathrooms, and flat radiators on castors were installed in the attic.

Special attention was given to generously sizing the heating output. Partial storage heaters operate most efficiently when they can fully utilize their storage function. The ceramic storage stones built into the radiators allow for up to 60 minutes of heating performance with only 15 minutes of electricity supply. Through careful planning and selecting radiators with slightly overdimensioned output, this advantage could be fully exploited.

Energy Consumption and Cost Overview

Using the SmartControl app, the energy consumption statistics of the individual radiators were conveniently downloaded and recorded. These data were cross-checked with the householdโ€™s monthly total electricity consumption and verified through random checks using digital socket power meters.

Comparison of Electric Heating and Gas Heating

A comparison with neighbors who heat with a central gas heating system showed that Lucht LHZ partial storage heaters are not only competitive in operating costs but also offer advantages through lower maintenance costs. Considering the total costs, electric heaters prove to be the more economical choice in this comparison.

Conclusion: High Satisfaction and Efficiency After Three Years

After three years of using Lucht LHZ partial storage heaters, the M. family is extremely satisfied with their decision to choose our products. The pleasant, soothing warmth, characterized by a high proportion of radiant heat, was particularly appreciated. The family also values the flexibility of the radiators, which can be adjusted to current needs at any time through individual programming and app control.

Lucht LHZ is proud to have made a significant contribution to the living comfort and energy efficiency of this household together with its OEM partners. This case impressively demonstrates how partial storage heaters represent a future-proof and economical heating solution not only in new buildings but also in renovated old buildings.
